Pastor David Walker
BIOGRAPHY:
For several years the churches Dr. Walker has pastored were listed in the top ten in baptisms among Southern Baptist churches in Texas, and one year during his pastorate, the First Baptist Church of San Antonio led the Southern Baptist Convention in baptisms with 1187. Dr. Walker has preached regularly across the South and Southwest in local church “revival meetings”, evangelism conferences, and national and statewide gatherings, such as the national Southern Baptist Pastor’s Conference and the Baptist General Convention of Texas. In addition to Baptist meetings, he has increasingly been involved in gatherings that have included a broader scope of the Body of Christ, both inter-denominationally and ethnically. He is the author of “It’s All in the Family,” a look at Christian family life. Besides preaching and spending time with the Alamo City family, Pastor Walker also enjoys the Out-of-Doors in practically every form — from hiking, fly-fishing and snow skiing the mountains in Southwestern Montana around Yellowstone National Park, to assisting some of his rancher friends in managing their South Texas deer herds. He also spends time jogging (the goal is an hour 3 times a week) – and playing tennis, which he and Shirley enjoy either as a teammates or as opponents. As a family over the years, the Walkers have grown closer as they have regularly stepped into outdoor adventures that have stretched them, scared them at times, and always given them something fun and exciting to remember. Almost from the time they could walk , Abbi, Katie and Evan have been out in a God-made world camping, hunting, fishing, hiking, snow skiing, and water skiing…enjoying almost anything that would let them be outside together as a family. “Buck”, the Boykin Spaniel, and “Sallie Mae”, the Red Bone Hound, are also a part of just about everything the Walkers do outside. Now with two new sons-in-law in the mix, Ryan and Adam, the clan is growing, and David and Shirley are excited about the future with the thought of some more little hikers and skiers showing up one day!
